Local Road Trips: The Fulton Mansion State Historic Site

Looking for a fun time? Stop by the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site. This mansion is found right in the Rockport-Fulton area, a great place to have a party or picnic. Built in the late nineteenth century, you can tour this local treasure for an educational and fun experience.

According to the Texas Historical Commission, the four-story structure was built by Col. George Ware Fulton and Harriet Gillette Smith in 1877. Originally called Oakhurst, the mansion was one of the first Second Empire-style buildings in Texas. Architecturally, the building is historically significant, arguably influencing the style of many buildings in the Southwest.

The Fulton Mansion is a great day trip for the whole family. In addition to self-guided and audio tours, the house also frequently holds events for the public. Most recently, the Music at the Mansion occurs every summer, drawing crowds and local musicians. There are also Travel Tours that can be downloaded as an iOS or Android App.

You can also stop by the Fulton gardens in the rear, as well as the Education and History Center. There is also a gift shop and interactive exhibit.  The Fulton Mansion is just one of many local attractions, all of which are made accessible with a new car from Aransas Autoplex.
