The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency has announced that it has added GM to its prestigious list of organizations that have earned a spot as a top employer for veterans. GM has earned the agency’s Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer Certification, marking the first time the certification has been awarded to an automaker. GM was praised for its initiative to hire and train U.S. military veterans.
GM has embraced the employment, support, and assistance of U.S. military veterans for more than 100 years. Today, GM is involved with a number of organizations in support of this nation’s veterans, including Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s “Hiring Our Heroes Program,” and the “100,000 Jobs Mission.” In addition, GM offers a military discount program, and GM’s Service Technical College and GM Automotive Service Educational Programs provide training opportunities for veterans interested in employment within GM’s network.
“We always appreciate being recognized for our efforts, but there is certainly more work to do to help transitioning vets,” Said Steve Hill GM vice president of U.S. sales and service in a statement. “Through our national partnerships with Building for America’s Bravest, Hiring Our Heroes and Shifting Gears, we hope to do even more to hire and help America’s veterans.”
